   Instructions:
   1.  Choose an example template or timeline:  (below)
         These templates (gantt charts) are usable.
         Find the closest example to your planning  (plan)  or scheduling  (schedule)  needs.
         Remember that everything can be modified by you  (everything:  the title,  tasks,  number of tasks,
         the numbers themselves,  the timeline names,  the number of timelines,  task durations,
         task dependencies,  start dates,  milestones,  colors,  everything)

   2.  Click the  'Take to Help-U-Plan Workspace'  button:
         If you want to use an existing template  (chart, schedule, plan),  and are more comfortable
         following an example,  then select a template from the 'Example template' area.
         If you just want an empty chart with titles,  then choose a  'Example Timeline Template'.
         Once you have a template or timeline highlighted in one of the dropdown lists,  then press
         'Take to HelpUPlan Workspace'.  That page will show you the template you selected,  and
         it will also show you tabs which allow you to modify everything.

  About Templates
A template of a simple plan can be very useful in the planning process.  By looking at a template (a simple plan with default data),  we can quickly tell if something has been over-looked.  When the template is in the form of a Gantt Chart,  we can also detect standard task priorities and task dependencies.  In some cases,  a very slightly modified template can serve as our simple plan for action,  leaving the detail for other forms of communication,  or for other more complex charts.

In project management,  a simple plan which gives an overview of the project may be just the right vehicle for presentation of project status to senior management or board members, with project detail stored in more complex project management software  (see our information series on project management for more discussion;  project management,  project management software,  project manager,  project planning,  and  Gantt Chart).

A template of a simple plan can also serve as a proposal,  in addition to showing status of a project already underway.  Our Gantt Chart format is excellent for presenting a business plan proposal to a banker,  to business associates,  or to potential partners.  Another example is a marketing plan submitted as a proposal,  with attachment of a graph  (part of the Help-U-Plan Workspace functionality)  indicating prospective response to marketing efforts.

In projects which get repeated over and over, with very common tasks and dependencies,  a template of a simple plan can be useful in the planning process with only slight modification.  Examples are those of wedding planning and,  (less so)  event planning.  In wedding planning,  a few tasks might be deleted or added,  and adjustments made in the timescale labels and the placement of the tasks relative to the timescale labels.

In addition to templates of simple plans,  we offer templates of the timeline only,  ready to be filled in with your task and milestone data.  In the Help-U-Plan approach to a timeline,  any text can be used in the timescale  (like Phase I, Phase II, etc.).  You are not restricted to using calendar-based dates.
